Peer ambassadors & volunteers

Support students as a
trained peer ambassador

Luminwell ambassadors offer structured, supervised peer support — not therapy. Apply when you are ready, complete onboarding with your coordinator, then message, schedule, and signpost from one dashboard built for student wellbeing.

The role

What ambassadors do on Luminwell

You meet students where they are — through messaging and booked sessions — using active listening, validation, and practical signposting. You help them feel less alone and more equipped to take the next step, whether that is campus services, GP support, or crisis resources when needed.

You are never expected to diagnose, treat, or hold clinical risk alone. Welfare pathways and your coordinator exist so difficult conversations are shared responsibly.

You might
Listen & relate

Reflect feelings, normalise struggle, celebrate small wins, and co-create next steps the student chooses.

Replace clinical care

No therapy techniques, no medical advice, no “fixing” — you complement professional services, not substitute them.

Your journey in three steps

Every ambassador is vetted, trained, and set up with tools before they are matched with students.

1

Apply & reflect

Share your background, skills, and availability. Tell us why peer support matters to you — we read every application.

2

Train & onboard

Complete safeguarding training, policies, and practice scenarios with your coordinator until you are cleared to take conversations.

3

Support & grow

Use the ambassador dashboard for messages, sessions, notes, and tasks — with team support when situations feel heavy.

Expectations

What we ask of you

Clarity keeps students safe and ambassadors sustainable. These are the non-negotiables we build training around.

Confidentiality & duty of care

Protect student privacy. Escalate through Luminwell when someone may be at risk — never promise secrecy you cannot keep.

Reliability within your availability

Honour the slots you offer and communicate early if study or life means you need to step back temporarily.

Documentation & reflection

Light session notes help coordinators support you and maintain continuity for students — we will show you how.

For coordinators

Running a safe ambassador programme

Staff use the admin flows to vet applicants, complete onboarding checklists, and add profiles when you are provisioning accounts directly. Pair this page with your institution’s safeguarding policy — Luminwell is the workflow layer, not a replacement for local governance.

Questions about eligibility or capacity? Route them through your Luminwell programme lead before inviting new ambassadors onto the platform.

Volunteering is not crisis support. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, use emergency services and crisis lines — not peer chat.
